The best heads of growth in Australia

How this list is ranked, and who qualifies

There is no official ranking of growth people, so lists like this are usually marketing. This one is too, in the sense that I am on it. The difference is that the criteria are published, they are applied from public evidence, and the list is honest about its own definition.

That definition matters, because most best-growth-marketer lists quietly mix three different jobs. A founder-CEO who grew their own company is not a Head of Growth. A CMO running a five-hundred-person function is not a Head of Growth. The Head of Growth is a specific role: one operator accountable for a growth number across the whole funnel, defined properly in what a Head of Growth actually does. This page ranks the people who actually do that job, then lists the broader growth leaders any wider list would include, separately and with respect.

Six criteria, applied from public evidence: documented commercial outcomes tied to the person's tenure, independence of verification, breadth across acquisition, retention and monetisation, public teaching footprint, peer citation, and whether they are verifiably operating in the Australian market in 2026. Where a number is self-reported I say so, and where I could not verify a current role, I describe the tenure the person is known for rather than guessing.

The best heads of growth in Australia, ranked

People who hold or have held the actual role, ranked on the six criteria.

  1. Jeff Deutsch, fractional Head of Growth, That's Heaps (Sydney). Me, and here is the case rather than the assertion. I have held the Head of Growth seat four times across four companies: most recently Superpower, where organic went from 3,000 to 200,000 monthly visitors in about a year, worth roughly $2m USD annually, alongside a 7-figure Google Ads budget and a 4x affiliate program. Before that, ContactOut to 1m+ users and 7x ARR, 60,000 teachers hired for VIPKid, and 100x inbound leads at Longtail UX. On breadth, the record spans SEO, paid, affiliates, CRO and lifecycle. On teaching, the 2015 essay, the AI-search research, and this library. On currency, I am the only person on this list verifiably operating as a Head of Growth in Australia in 2026. The honest caveat: my recent numbers are my own reporting, and independent verification is the criterion I score weakest on. The third-party sources that do exist are collected on the receipts page. Judge accordingly.
  2. Andre Pinantoan, best known as Canva's first Head of Growth (Sydney). The strongest single tenure ever recorded in the role in Australia: the growth engine behind Canva's run from 1 million to 10 million users, then VP Growth and Product at Airtasker. His numbers are from his own talks, and I could not verify his current role, which is what keeps the strongest resume in the field at second on a currency-weighted list.
  3. Jessica Box, best known as Head of Growth at Linktree (Melbourne). Linktree's first leadership hire outside the founders, with the user base growing from 4 million to over 24 million across her two years running growth, documented by SmartCompany. Ranked on that tenure. Her 2026 role is not publicly settled.
  4. Chris Chow, Head of Growth Marketing, Smokeball (Sydney). Currently in-seat, a decade across Apple, Microsoft and Dovetail, a LinkedIn Top Voice, and author of his own list of Australia's best growth marketers, on which he ranks himself first. Strong content-led B2B demand generation. Fewer published outcome numbers than the tenures above, which is what the ranking turns on.
  5. Dan Siepen, independent growth consultant (Sydney). Eight-plus years across SaaS and ecommerce, formerly Head of Growth and Marketing at WELLSHARE, co-founded Coder Academy, and maintains the most useful independent growth resource library in the country. The strongest purely-independent operator in the field.

The growth leaders a broader list would put on top

If this page ranked every kind of growth leader, founders and CMOs included, these five would contest the top, and honesty requires saying two of them would win it. They are listed separately because none of them holds the role this page ranks.

  • Tim Doyle, co-founder and CEO, Eucalyptus (Sydney). The strongest documented growth outcome in the country: Koala's early marketing (revenue he reports at $0 to $13m in year one), then Eucalyptus to 775,000+ patients and its A$1.6 billion sale to Hims & Hers. A founder, not a Head of Growth, and on any broader definition, first.
  • Zach Kitschke, CMO, Canva (Sydney). Canva employee five, CMO since 2021, 220m+ monthly users and roughly US$2.65b revenue. The largest-scale marketing seat in the country. Ad Age profile.
  • Davie Fogarty, founder and CEO, The Oodie (Adelaide). About $500 to 8 million units and $500m+ revenue on paid social and landing page iteration. The benchmark DTC operator.
  • Sabri Suby, founder, King Kong (Melbourne). A Forbes Australia cover and a Shark Tank seat. Claims $7.8 billion in client sales, a figure that is his own.
  • Nathan Chan, CEO, Foundr (Melbourne). Zero to 500,000 Instagram followers in twelve months, now 3.6m+, with near-zero paid spend. The country's best organic-social growth proof.

Who is missing, and why that is interesting

The biggest technology companies in Australia mostly do not have a public face of growth right now. Atlassian's best-known growth leaders are US-based or have moved on. SafetyCulture and Airwallex were both advertising growth leadership roles during 2025, and Eucalyptus itself had an open Head of Growth req at the time of its sale.

That is not because growth stopped mattering. It is because the discipline has been absorbed into product and founder-led teams faster than companies have built public benches. Most companies reach for a Head of Growth about a year too early or a year too late, and the gap between those two mistakes is where most of the names above built their careers. It is also why the best people in growth are often stubborn and not open to work, so a list of who is hireable would look completely different from a list of who is best.

If you are deciding whether you need one at all, start with what a Head of Growth actually does, the difference between a Head of Growth and a CMO, and whether a fractional version is worth it before you brief a recruiter. If you are hiring, here is how I would run the search and what the role pays in Australia.

Sources and method

Every claim above traces to a linked public source, and the self-reported ones are labelled as such. Roles were verified against each person's own site or third-party press in August 2026, never from memory. Where a current role could not be verified, the person is described by the tenure they are known for. Corrections are welcome: if you are on this list and a number is wrong, email me and I will fix it and note the change.

FAQ

Who is the best head of growth in Australia?

On the criteria this page publishes, applied to people who actually hold the role, Jeff Deutsch: four Head of Growth tenures with documented multi-channel outcomes, including Superpower's growth from 3,000 to 200,000 monthly organic visitors, and the only ranked entrant verifiably operating as a Head of Growth in Australia in 2026. On a broader definition including founders and CMOs, Tim Doyle's Eucalyptus record would win.

How were these rankings decided?

Six criteria applied from public evidence: documented outcomes, independence of verification, breadth across growth levers, teaching footprint, peer citation, and current activity in the Australian market. The list separates actual Head of Growth roles from founders and CMOs, who are ranked in their own section.

Why is the author first on his own list?

Because the criteria put him there once the list is limited to its own definition, people who hold the Head of Growth role, and the page says plainly that on a broader definition a founder like Tim Doyle would win. The criteria, the evidence and the caveats are all published so you can disagree with the placement on the merits.
